A quick fix for patios, the bleaching method!
Is your patio in desperate need of a little tender loving care right now? Well, the good thing is there are many ways you can give it a quick fix to get it looking good again. If you’ve been put off from getting a patio simply because you were worried about the cleaning process of it, don’t be! Before doing anything though, you need to make sure all of your nice patio furniture such as teak garden benches are out of the way so they don’t get damaged. The bleaching method is our favourite because it works brilliantly and will not affect the layout and positioning of the slabs, whereas other methods have been known to move slabs around causing bigger problems. Jet washers beware!
You could jet wash patio, although this is great, it’s not always ideal! Many people use this method because it’s quick, it’s fast and it’s forceful and it almost certainly gets slabs looking fresh and clean again. The trouble is, don’t expect those slabs to be sitting where they were at the start because more often than not, jet washing moves slabs around and unless your patio was laid down extremely well, jet washing is more than likely going to disturb it. This can cause all sorts of problems afterwards because loosening slabs will only get worse, rain water will start getting underneath them and disrupting them even more and they will become hazardous if they are sitting at different heights so jet washers’ beware!
A quick blast with the hose!
You could give the patio a quick blast with the hose pipe however unless this is done regularly, do not expect it to make much of a difference. Hose pipes offer enough force to remove debris, dust and surface dirt and will clean the patio area for a quick fix but they do not offer a much force when it comes to tackling grounded stains and marks which may have be present for some time, you are going to need more than a hose pipe for that!
Bleaching method!
Bleaching method will take slightly longer than the two options above but don’t be put off by that, bleaching doesn’t need to be done often, so every now and again. Simple wash the slabs with a water bleach solution mixed together in a bucket. Using a hard bristle brush work the bleach and water solution into the slabs make sure the whole patio area is thoroughly cleaned. For stubborn areas try tipping a little neat bleach onto it and use the brush to work that in.
After bleaching is complete a through rinsing will be required, this may take several buckets of water, or you may wish to use a hose pipe or jet wash for this. Keep rinsing and sweeping away the excess mixture until the slabs are clear again. You can contact a patio or garden clearance company.
You may find that the slabs appear lightened in colour, this normal. They will return to normal in time but after bleaching they tend to appear lighter in shade, we actually like this as it makes them appear fresher and cleaner.
You many notice areas that still need attention at the end, if so you can repeat the process until the desired appearance is achieved, in time it will get better and the more you do a patio bleach clean the better it will start to look.

You can buy a patio cleaning solution to clean you patio if you wish but you may find after using the bleaching method you no longer need to because it works just as well.
Beware of young children and pets when bleaching patios, allow it to dry before letting them onto your newly cleaned patio because bleach is hazardous and can be harmful if consumed.
